A specially designated “dog friendly” area adjacent to the City pier at Pier Park was opened up a few years ago, and ever since it has proven to be very popular with dog owners who enjoy playing with their dogs near the shoreline. For our new visitors we thought it would be a good idea to remind you that the rules posted there prohibit the dogs from running free. They must be on leashes at all times. There is also a handy “cleanup” dispenser nearby with plastic gloves. Enjoy this 400 foot section of PCBeach but please follow the rules. Make the experience a good one for other beach visitors, yourself and your dog.
Don’t lose your belongings! Perhaps you have heard something about new rules regarding leaving items on the beach overnight but you aren’t sure of the details. Here is what you need to know. Last summer local officials created a needed “Leave No Trace” ordinance for several reasons, one being safety. Although you may stay on the beach as long as you like, the rules now prohibit leaving any personal items unattended on the beach between the hours of 7pm and 7am. This primarily applies to any “tent” or “canopy” type structures that could become airborne during high winds or get in the way of crews performing cleanup duties on the beach. It also applies to any other personal items from blankets to coolers. To avoid having any such items taken away by beach personnel, be sure to remove them from the beach before 7pm. After that time they will be considered abandoned.
